Joyful Sound
What is Joyful Sound? Joyful Sound is a hand chime choir open to all St. John's students in Grades 5-8.
What are Hand Chimes? Hand chimes are a unique instrument much like a handbell. Unlike the handbell, the chime is a solid shaft that produces a tone through the vibration caused when a mallet hits the shaft.
How does the choir work? There are no try-outs for Joyful Sound. Any interested 5th-8th grader is welcome to join! We rehearse after school for an hour once a week and play in church here at St. John's once a month. Our after-school rehearsals do not conflict with sports practices, so you can be involved in both!

St. John's offers your child a comprehensive & stimulating music program.
Did you know.... Case studies* conducted in high school to assess academic success found that the cumulative GPAs of music students were significantly higher than those of non-music students and that students' achievement in reading, writing, and math improved when arts were included in the curriculum. *Source: K McCarthy, 1992

A note from the Choir Director:
Music is a gift from God, given to us to express a variety of emotions and messages, and most importantly, to praise Him! My name is Mrs. Szymanski and I am pleased to be at St. John's, both as the Second Grade Teacher as well as the Director for Joyful Sound and Little Gospel Lights. Music is something I love to use in my classroom, and directing the choirs enables me to share music with even more students - what a blessing!
Our extracurricular music offerings are a lot of fun, but also involve commitment, a kind of commitment that involves the whole family. Students are involved in weekly rehearsals as well as participating in church once a month. Students commit to doing their best at rehearsals and in church, and parents commit to providing transportation and encouragement along the way! Our choirs take a journey through the school year, learning not only music and theory, but also the value of commitment, learning something new, and being a part of a team. We grow together, learn together, and share our challenges and victories along the way!
It is my prayer that you will consider joining us on our journey as we praise our heavenly Father through the gift of music!
Mrs. Szymanski |
